Doug Lederman is a higher education journalist and analyst, writing and speaking widely about the industry and advising nonprofit organizations and companies. He served as editor and co-founder of Inside Higher Ed from 2004 to 2024, where he helped lead the news organization’s editorial operations and contributed to its business strategy. Before co-founding Inside Higher Ed, he served in a variety of roles at The Chronicle of Higher Education from 1986 to 2003, including as managing editor. He began his career as a news clerk at The New York Times. He grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio, and graduated in 1984 from Princeton University. Doug lives with his wife, Kate Scharff, in Bethesda, Md.
